Breast of Canada Calendar by Laura Shaw - thecannon.ca Thursday night was the official launch of the Breast of Canada Calendar, the brainchild of U of G graduate and artist Sue Richards. The Guelph Youth Music Centre Theatre held not only the calendar launching but a one-act play also about breasts called “the Strong Breast Revolution.” These two breast-centred events brought our floppy friends to the limelight, while they are usually kept hidden beneath layers and constricted by social taboos. The calendar itself features beautiful black and white images of breasts: large breasts, small breasts, young breasts, old breasts and every breast in between. While breasts have been given a sexual connotation from our media-centred society, this calendar brings them back where they belong; Into the home, into the spotlight and back into conversation. Net proceeds of the sales of these calendars goes to the Canadian Breast Cancer Network, in fact the calendars are filled with educational tidbits and information on self breast checks and women’s health information. Breast health cannot be ignored in a world where the current breast cancer statistic is one in nine in Canada. Calendars like this one are vital to promote breast health awareness and to force people to acknowledge that breasts do exist, they’re not going away, so we might as well get used to them and start treating them with the respect they deserve, and caring for them properly. The Calendar is being sold at the following locations in Guelph:
